Preety good, IMHO. The author does throw in a lot of his personal opinion on the subject of money.
Recognition is an effective way to motivate any employee as long as they already feel satisfied with their pay. If not, then a recognition effort risks backfiring.
What do you think is more important: pay or recognition? How related are they?
If my pay satisfies my needs, then recognition goes a really, really long way with me. There is nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment, and to have recognition for it. But when the pay isn't there, or is subpar for the job, then it doesn’t go far at all.
Now in a different kind society, where money weren't needed. I could get by happily on just what I love to do and recognition for it. As long as I were provided for in some manner level with my contributions.
